Cambridge Karachi Portrait
Le Menach Foundation supports Caroline Jaine's Cambridge/Karachi Portrait, begun in March 2011 on location in Karachi by donating video cameral equipment and the director of photography who filmed the project.
With a keen research interest in truth and perception, especially in the realities presented to us via the main-stream media, Caroline Jane selected two cities with seemingly little in common to highlight how perception is manipulated by the media - Cambridge and Karachi.
Caroline's ambition was to show commanalities and connections between these two different cities. The process of generating a portrait of the two places was complex and involved inviting ahost of volunteer participants, mainly from the business community. Film, story-telling and photography was used and the outputs include a film, a book of photographs and the Cambridge Karachi website. However the experience has also generated positive relationships and ongoing dialogue as well as promoting business and other exchanges between the two cities.
